my happy place

The beach has always been my favorite place in the entire world. Growing up, several of my family members had beach houses on Bolivar Peninsula (just across the ferry from Galveston Island). I have the best memories at those beach houses…spending hot days with my cousins, covered in sand, slightly (or sometimes majorly) sunburned, eating popsicles while sitting on the porch swing, catching hermit crabs, bringing buckets of salt water to fill up the huge downstairs sink of my Grandma’s beach house to keep the hermit crabs, the waterslides down the street (which seemed so huge in my mind then, though I now know were really quite small!), sleeping on cots on the screened-in porch (there were so many of us that there were never enough beds), the smell of sunscreen still on your skin even after you showered, crabbing off the rocks on the jetty, the list goes on and on…it is my happy place. I love the sound, the smell, and the feel of it (yes, even the sticky, gritty feel of it!). As a momma, I often wonder what my kiddos “happy” place will be…I wonder where they will create their best memories. It is something I am always thinking about, especially this time of year! What is your “happy” place? What place in this world holds the most nostalgia for you? I’m so curious…

(I’m only a few years behind on editing my own images. While organizing files I came across this session that I shot in May 2011. A daddy/daughter session of Ryan and our girls…)

In a few weeks, we are taking the Casa de Ester girls to the beach here in Honduras. I’m praying this will be a time when these girls (who mostly have very few really good memories) will create some “happy place” memories. Pray with us that  it will be a wonderful time for each one of them! Feel free to leave a comment and mention your happy place!

We have always shared a love for the beach, and I just so happen to be in my happy place this very moment:) I have no doubt that the girls from casa de esther have already made MANY great memories with your sweet family, but I pray that your time together at the beach will be refreshing and full of sweet moments to cherish! Love you!!

WOW!!! I love them all, just when I had a favorite, I liked another… Thanks, Jamie for capturing all those precious moments.
My happy places are always times enjoying the water, if it was a lake, a pool, or a beautiful beach somewhere.
Praying that the Casa de Esther girls will have a relaxing, memorable time at the beach, hoping you will capture some special moments as well, and share with us all. :) Love to all of you in Honduras!!

I loved reading this post. I have a very similar “happy place”. My grandparents have a beach house in Grayton Beach, FL that we go to EVERY year {family reunion} — and have been ever sense I can remember. Still to this day, I look forward to that trip every summer…sittin’ on the back porch, drinkin’ TRUE sweet tea, hanging out at the beach all day until we look like lobsters, and just being with family!!!!!

Beautiful pictures of beautiful family! Andee’s eyes are so blue! Your girls are so
blessed to have such a loving daddy! (and mommy)
I can’t think of a happy place growing up. My girls and pets and family and Jesus are my happy place .
